Monster.
Finished piece + firing ticket
Process:
I made rolled out a tiny ball then cut out a hole in the bottom. I carved the details of the eye, and sculpted the feet, hand, and antennas. I scored and slipped the parts on, then painted the monster and fired it. I glazed it with clear glaze and fired it again.
Reflection:
What went well: I liked the colors of the monster, and how small it was. I also think it looks a lot like the reference picture.
What I would do different: I would paint more details on the eye and teeth. I would also make it a lighter purple.

Slab building with darts.
Finished piece + firing ticket
Process:
I flattened a slab, then cut out a long rectangular piece. I then squared it, and cut triangles along the squares corners. I folded down the edges to connect at the corner, and cut them at a slant to stick them together. then I outlined the bottom on another slab, and cut out a square for the bottom. I did that again, and cut out the middle to make the cup have feet. Then I carved the design of the fish and painted it purple and yellow. I got it fired, then painted the rest with black glaze, and the fish with clear.
Reflection:
What went well: The fish looked good, and I liked the purple and yellow together.
What I would do different: I would make the cup more even, and smoother. I would glaze the background a different color than black because the black is too dark.

Coil building.
Finished piece + firing ticket
Process:
I rolled out a coil, and molded the shape of the snail. Then I attached the coils to make the snails shell, and added the snails eyes. I painted it glaze, had it fired, then painted it with clear glaze.
Reflection:
What went well: I like the way the snail looks. I like the colors I used, especially for the shell.
What I would do different: I would make the eyes more stable because one broke off. I would choose a slightly different yellow color for the snail.

Sgraffito/Slump mold.
Finished project + firing ticket
Process:
I rolled out a slab of clay then put it on a plate. When it was leather hard I painted it, and craved out cherry blossom designs. I took it off the mold and had it fired. Then I painted it with clear glaze.
Reflection:
What went well: I like the design of the cherry blossoms, and somewhat liked the green color.
What I would do different: I would make the paint look smoother. I would make the edges of the plate more even, and make the paint in a more even circle.

Pinch pot with fitted lid.
Finished piece + firing ticket
Process:
I made a pinch pot. Then I traced the width of the circle on a slab to make the lid. I cut out the lid, and added a rim on the inside to it would be fitted. I cut out two stars from a slab and scored and slipped them on the lid. Then I painted it purple and carved out constellations on the sides of the pot. I painted the stars yellow, and had it fired. The I painted it with clear glaze.
Reflection:
What went well: I like the designs of the stars, and the colors of the purple and yellow.
What I would do different: I would make the lid better fitted, and make it look more like a smooth circle.

Research:
I used sgraffito for the design on the tile. Sgraffito first became popular in Italy during the Renaissance and Art Nouveau movements. Polidoro da Caravaggio and his partner Maturino da Firenze were among the leading specialists during this time.
Construction process:
I rolled out a slab, then cut out a square tile. I painted the tile green and carved out flowers and a bunny. I painted details on the bunny and flowers with white and green.
Reflection:
What went well: I like the design and border around the tile. The bunny turned out really cute and clear.
What I would do different: I would carve out the design when the clay is leather-hard, not bone-dry because the clay chipped off a little around the designs.

Construction process:
I rolled out a slab then cut a square tile. Then I traced the outline of a star and carved out the clay around it. I painted it with dark blue under-glaze, then painted rays of yellow and other colors on top. It was fired so I painted a clear glaze on top, and dark blue on the bottom.
Reflection:
What went well: I liked how the colors turned out. The yellow makes it look like the stars glowing.
What I would do differently: I would make the rays of light around the star slightly fainter so the star would stand out more.

Finished piece + firing ticket:
Construction Process:
I used to two pinch pots stuck together and turned into something useful as the base. Then I cut a small hole in the top and added another pinch pot for the head. I cut out a hole in its stomach and scrapped off extra clay, because it was to thick. Then I added some ears. I had it fired once, and painted the details of the cats face and cherry blossoms.
Reflection:
What went well: I like the way it turned out. The colors are really good, and the cherry blossom details are pretty.
What I would do different: I would make the body more even so it wouldn't be so wobbly. I would paint the background a lighter green.
